This latest bridge, connecting Xiamen island to mainland took only 18 months to construct, at a world record pace. Its entire length is over 10 kms long. The south of the bridge connects to Huandao Road near Xiamen International Airport, and the north connects to the Binhaixi Avenue in Jimei District.

Jimei Bridge is an important future channel linking Xiamen Airport to Xiamen Train Station (under construction) in Jimei.

Jimei Bridge has eight lanes and they flow both ways. It also has two extra middle lanes for Rapid Transit System. The bridge is 36 meters wide, the widest in Xiamen.

The traffic authority in Xiamen estimates that Jimei Bridge is expected to divert half of the bridge traffic from the nearby old Xiamen Bridge.
