The Tianjin Museum of Science and Technology is located in Longchang Road, Hexi District, next to the Tianjin Amusement Park. It occupies 40,000 square metres of ground and gives a total floor space of 21,000 square metres.

Construction of the museum began in 1992, with the museum opening to the public on New Year's Day, 1995. This modern comprehensive museum is equipped for the popularization of science and is one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The Science and Technology Hall of the museum is unique in architectural style with the main structure being shaped like a bridge. A spherical structure, 30 metres in diameter, resting on the bridge gives one the impression of the rising sun. In this hall are exhibition rooms, a multi functional planetarium, an auditorium and classrooms.

The Display Hall, located in the centre of the museum, is the main part of the Tianjin Museum of Science and Technology. The upper and lower floors of the hall are divided into 14 sections, devoted to different branches of science and special technologies. Altogether the hall displays 318 exhibits or sets of exhibits.

The displays in the Science and Technology Hall combine science, knowledge, interest, participation and art into one. Aided by sound, light electricity, computers and other modern methods of display, they vividly diffuse knowledge of science and technology to visitors, who may touch and operate the exhibits.

The Universe Theatre is equipped with an inclined aluminum projection dome and a 360 degree whole-sky projector. The audience can watch films showing scientific exploration, the movement of the celestial bodies and amazing astronomical phenomena.
