The national geological park, first national geological park of Nanjing, was officially unveiled recently in the Guizi Mountain tourist resort of Liuhe.

In the Guizi Mountain tourist resort, stone pillars are at the height of over 40 meters and they are in orders no matter whether they are vertical or not, very grand and marvelous. Academician Xu Keqing made comments on this early in 1960, "they are more fantastic than the basalt pillars in the American Yellow Stone Park. They are so rare even in the world and I suggest building a park."

It is said in an interview that the stone pillar forest of Guzi Mountain was found when the local was mining stone materials. Now it has become one of the 40 new sceneries in Jinling, named "towering stone pillars". Since 2002, guided by an expert team from the Nanjing geological mineral research institution, the Liuhe District has started to establish a geological park which was approved at the provincial level in November, 2003. It successfully went through the approval at the national level in August, 2005 and become a second national geological park in Jiangsu and the first one in Nanjing.

The park has coverage of 92 km2 and consists of "three groups and one lake" which are volcanoes, stone pillar forests and rain flower stone levels and the Golden Ox Lake. The park also has more than 30 geological remains, 11 scenic spots of mountains and stones and 4 cave scenic spots.

The Guizi Mountain tourist resort is the core of the geological park whose main scenic sports are stone pillar melted rocks which is the largest in the world and the museum. It is divided into three parts: leading area, science education area and miracles appreciation area. (Yangtze Evening)
