There are three Archways. The one in the middle was built in 1886 (i.e. the 12th year in the Guangxu period). There was a serious flood in Zhuhai that year. Many people in the village lost their homes and had nowhere to find shelter. Chen Fang learned of this news while he was still in Hawaii. He donated three thousand tael of silver and sent it back to his country asking the Imperial Court to use it for relief to victims. The Emperor was deeply moved when he learnt about it, and ordered a monumental Archway to be built in honor of Chen Fang. The emperor also honored Chen Fang with the title of Senior Official of Second Order.

The left Archway was built in the year of 1891. It was Chen Fang's first grandson Chen Young Nian who asked the Imperial Court to build it to honor his father (i.e. Chen Fang's son, Chen Long). The Archway was 10.1 meters high, 9 meters wide, and 4.6 meters deep. Chen Long and his wife were named "Feng Zheng Da Fu" and "Wu Pin Tai Yi Fu Ren." The Red Guards destroyed the Archway on the right during the Cultural Revolution, so it is not known whom that Archway was honoring. It is said that when the Red Guards attempted to destroy the other two Archways, all the villagers in Meixi sat around them and their action prevented the Archways from being totally destroyed.

The three existing Archways are made of granite and well built with intricate carvings. They combine the architectural art of the West and the East and have many wonderful engravings. They are regarded as a major artistic treasure of Zhuhai and were placed on the architectural protection list of Guangdong Province in 1989 by the Zhuhai government.
