DAMEISHA beach park in eastern Shenzhen will impose a maximum daily capacity of 50,000 visitors during the National Day holidays, Yantian District Government said at a news conference yesterday.
The park will open 19 hours a day from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next day, the conference said.
The district will impose dynamic monitoring, recommending people to avoid peak times when visitor numbers reach 30,000. When the number reaches 40,000, the park will recommend people to visit other places.
The information will be conveyed by various media including text messages, LED screens on expressways, TV and radio.
The dynamic monitoring system was set up to avoid overcrowding, environmental damage, traffic jams and accidents, said Chen Zhuowen, deputy chief of the district Party committee's publicity department.
Built in 1999, Dameisha has long been a favorite for holidaymakers.
Car parks designed to handle 12,000 to 30,000 visitors a day have become overwhelmed since the opening of the Yanba Expressway and increased traffic routes in Yantian have improved access to the park.
The district government introduced the monitoring system to control visitor numbers during the National Day holidays in 2009. During the eight-day National Day holiday last year, Dameisha park received 669,516 visitors - or a daily average of 90,000. On Oct. 2, 166,424 people visited the park, peaking at 4 p.m. with 43,832 visitors.
On May 2, 2009, the park saw 320,000 visitors, a record in the park's history.
