Located in the northeast of Qingpu District, the Qushui Garden is one of the top five classical gardens in Shanghai. First constructed in 1745 of the Qing Dynasty, it was originally a garden attached to the Town God Temple.

Originally known as the Lingyuan Garden, its name was later changed to 'Qushui Garden' literally meaning zigzagging channel in Chinese. Qushui Garden derived its name from the line: "Cups float along a zigzag channel", in the Preface to a Collection of Poems Composed at Orchid Pavilion by Wang Xizhi, a famous calligrapher of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420).

As same as most traditional Chinese gardens in South China, the Qushui Garden is well laid out with the elegant scenery. With the large artificial hill and two ponds (Lotus Pond and Water Lily Pond) as the center that water flows around hills, and hills are enlivened by water. The beamless hall and Nine-Bend Bridge in the garden are the architectural masterpieces.

The Coagulating Harmony Hall is flanked by the Perception Hall and Rower God Hall. Standing in the same line, the three halls are separated by walls, and linked by winding paths, a rare scene in the Chinese gardens. With the Coagulating Harmony Hall as the axis, there is a hall in the front and a house in the rear.

Qushui Garden is also a world of towering gingko trees, ancient trees, Chinese wisteria, and a wide variety of flowers.
