This Former Residence of Chiang Kai-shek is at 3 Tangquan Road of Tangshan Town. The location is quite mountainous, with verdant trees standing, beautiful flower blossoming, singing birds flying, and spring water flowing. The villa has 28 kilometers distance from Nanjing's city center, but it is neighboring to Yangshan Steles and Nanjing Ape Man Site which are great tourist attractions. Excellent scenery has fascinated many poets, litterateurs and celebrities to live here. In the early stage of Kuomintang period, many wealthy families built villas by the hot spring, to which a rich man Tao Bao, built his villa here and christened Tao's Mansion in 1919.

But in 1927, the Nationalist government set their capital at Nanjing and Tao's Mansion was confiscated because they thought it was an "illegal asset". In April 1946, the government renewed this house for Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Meiling, as a hot spring holiday villa. The architectural style is a combination of East and West with sobriety and elegance. It has a basement and one floor above the ground. The ground floor consists of guest reception room, bedrooms and chamber for playing chess. Large bathrooms for the couple, bodyguards and staff are in the basement.
