Qingpu Museum, founded at Qingpu Town God Temple in October, 1958 , has a collection about 10,000 pieces.

The new Qingpu Museum, designed by the famous architect Xin Tonghe, is about 8800 m2large in construction space, situated at the Songze Square of Qingpu district. The architecture, composed by five interlocked oval cylinders and constructed with modern architectural materials, looks like a flying butterfly.

There are five sections according to the architecture. The central one is the lobby which has a 8 m high large stone stele inscribed in low relief with the Ode to Qinglong, providing visitors services in a solemn and refined environment.

Both the east and west wings are the exhibition area of 3600 m2. Over a thousand masterpieces from the collection are on display here. Guided by the new museum display theory, modern audio and lighting techniques and many background sceneries, pictures and multimedia equipments are adopted in the display to enable visitors to learn the history of Qingpu and Shanghai more easily and pleasantly.

The Origin of Ancient Shanghai Civilization is the exhibition in the south wing. Staring with how and when Shanghai became a land, it shows the long history of Shanghai with beautiful archaeological finds from Qingpu of Majiabang Culture, Sonze Culture, Liangzhu Culture, Maqiao Culture to the Sring & Autumn and Han dynasty.

Charms of Shanghai's Water Culture is the topic for the display in the east wing. It introduces changes of water systems and constructions related in Qingpu history. The models of Qinglong Town Port demonstrate the prosperous life and trade on the port in the Song dynasty. Sections of Bridge Culture and Water Life present vividly the custom and folk culture of the local people. And the part of Outstanding People from this Well-known Place pictures those famous people from the place.

The north and west sections are also 3600 m2 in total occupied by museum offices, meeting rooms and temporary exhibitions. The new museum will make a new contribution to the development of Qingpu's cultural undertakin.
