The Lingyan Rock stands between the Dalong Qiu and the Lingfeng Peak and people often treat the it as "bright yard" (where emperors and dukes in ancient times offered sacrifice to divinities) of Mt. Yandang. Wang Shipeng of Song Dynasty wrote a poem in praise of the scene, "Yangdang Mountain ranks the Number one in the word, while the Lingyan Rock is a wonder on earth." Li Xiaoguang, a litterateur of Yuan Dynasty said, "Lingfeng is the most steep and beautiful site; Lingyan is the most massive and enormous site," which tells the different beauty of the two "Ling". The uniqueness of the Lingyan Rock lies in their concealment and their "grandeur and colossus". It is not easy to locate the scenic spot because the Lingyan Rock hide themselves in the Anchan Valley, and hence it is called concealment. "The skyscraping precipices are closed with tortuous winding paths leading to the inside as if entering a new world." (Described by Xu Xiaoke) Lingyan ancient temple as the center, Pingxia Peak locating in the back with floating clouds and myriad of sun rays, Heaven Pillar and Flag Peak in the left and right, the rock body is heavy majestic. It embodies "grandeur and colossus". Therefore Lingyan makes you feel peaceful in its view. Yangdang Mountain is a creation by supernatural craftsmanship. The carving technique of supernatural craftsmanship may be different from artificial workmanship, but the Lingyan Rocks are carved with bold knives and axes in a proud and powerful relief. However, there are many fabulous sites in Lingyan such as Heaven Window Cave, Dragon Nose Water, Xiaolong Qiu, Beautiful Lady Peak, Double Pearls Waterfall etc., but they are all covered. The Lingyan rock lack no exquisite scenic value on the other side. It reflects the loftiness and solemnity of Mt. Yandang.
