The Wild Goose Lake (Yan Lake) gives Yandang Moutain its name (Yandang means 'reed marsh for wild geese'). Yan Lake is basis of the name of the Yandang Mountain. Because its location on high hills at the altitude of 1, 000 meters on the west corner of Yandang Mountain and rugged roads, people in the past that climbed up to the peak are rear. Therefore, rare people had seen the Yan Lake, which made the Yan Lake more mysterious and thereby many tales produced. Among them, the "Sunk Bell in Yuan Lake" and the "Steel Boat on Yan Lake" are the tales which have been recorded most in literatures.
