Water Garden Expo Park has a planning area of about 6.76 square kilometers (land area of 3.03 square kilometers), which consists of five exhibition park islands, four ecological landscapes islands and two peninsulas, including the main pavilion, Chinese Education Park, Marine Culture Island, Spa Island and other functional areas and related facilities.

The Bay terrain of Garden Expo Park is the result of blowing sand from Xinglin Island, plus dredging and filling with over 3.5 million cubic meters of sandy and loam soil, and artificial formation.

The main pavilion of the 6th Garden Expo is consisted of Garden Expo Island, Mingtai Island (means Fujian and Taiwan) and the entrance services area, its planning area is about 110 hectares.

In the main pavilion, it is firstly divided into Three Garden Areas (which are North Park, South Park and Lingnan Park), the National Customs Park, Modern Park, the International Park, Mingtai Park, Landscape Architects Park and Public Park.
