This three-floor museum displays the history and artifacts of Xiamen and its ancient people including excavated farming and fishing tools, displays explaining local festivals and customs and the religious beliefs of the inhabitants. Exhibits of local art such as porcelain, wooden carvings, calligraphic scrolls and various paintings can be found on the second and third floors. In the Mintai Folk Gallery, the history of the region is explored from the Ming Dynasty onwards, and there is also a display charting the period from the Japanese invasion of China to the birth of the PRC during the 20th Century.
