Yanmeikeng is listed as one of the 23 eastern beaches of Shenzhen, but the place is wild with a rocky, muddy shore. The beach may be entirely under water when the tide comes in but is good for crabbing when the tide retreats, with many tiny red crabs hidden among the rocks.
The water in tiny Yangmeikeng bay used to be crystal clear but now is slightly polluted as yachts berth there. Private boat owners offer shuttle service to several nearby islands, including Dajiadao, Xiajiadao and Sanmendao.
Some boat owners also solicit business at Judiaosha beach. A round trip from Judiaosha to Dajiadao, the nearest island, costs 300 yuan (US$37.50). The islands have accommodations and diving services, with one-night stays costing around 250 yuan for a double room in a seaside cottage.
The greatest attraction at Yangmeikeng, besides its picturesque scenery, may be its farmer-owned restaurants offering organic chicken and vegetables.
Driving from Judiaosha to Yangmeikeng, there is a luxury yacht club called Longcheer with dining, accommodations, sailing and yacht rental.
