The municipal park Honghu Park is located in the prosperous Luohu District. It ranges from north Wenjin Road and east Honghu Road in the east to west Honghu Road in the west, and borders on Sungang Bridge in the south and Nigang Bridge in the north. The terrain is low-lying, and is a comprehensive park characteristic of water landscapes and water activities.
Lotus is the park's theme flower. The park is a lotus landscape planting base in South China, planting huge number of lotus in large area. More than 100 varieties of lotus such as water lilies and other aquatic flowers are planted in 2nd and 3rd level lakes, which covers over 100 Ares in area. Since 1988, it has held a lotus exhibition each year and attracted an increasing number of tourists to visit lotus landscapes, which plays an active role in developing lotus culture. Since 1996, it has also sent technologists and provided improved strains to horticulture units for Hong Kong and Macao units, promoting lotus culture exchange. What's more, it built and opened the only stele passageway in China in June 1996, whose subject is intoning lotus. The stele passageway, 100 meters in length, consists of 85 calligraphy works, some of which are created by famous calligraphers like Zhao Puchu, Qi Gong, Shen Peng, Wang Ziwu, and Tong Wei. Now it becomes a new culture attraction and study area, and an ideal place for citizens and visitors to admire lotus as well.
Since 1995, the park has held several important activities, such as the Ninth National Lotus Exhibition, Holland-Tulip flower show, large art lantern show, the Large Fireworks Show celebrating the Fifteenth Anniversary of Shenzhen SEZ and the Return of Hong Kong to China, all of which make a positive effect on society.
