A native of Chuansha County in Shanghai, Huang Yanpei (October 1, 1878--December 21, 1965), character Renzhi, was one of the greatest patriots and democratic educationalists in modern China and the founder of China League of Democratic Political Groups (now renamed as China Democratic League). Huang's parents died when he was young and he lived with his grandfather till he grew up. Huang studied at Nanyang Public School (now Shanghai Jiaotong University) in 1901 and Cai Yuanpei, the well-known educationalist, was one of his teachers.


At his former residence, the visitor will be able to find out information about Mr. Huang Yanpei's life (1 October 1878 - 21 December 1965) and career divided into the following seven parts: childhood, youth, advocating against the Japanese invasion, long-standing friendship with the Chinese Communist Party, a people's servant and people in memory of Mr. Huang. Being a grand patriot, loyal democratic and a originator of China's vocational education, he almost dedicated his entire life to reform the traditional education which he considered should be practical and society-oriented.
