There used to be seven Orthodox churches in Shanghai in 1930s. But this is the only one preserved well till today. The church was built in 1933. Later, because of the World War II and a lot of other reasons, most believers of Orthodoxy left China. In 1965 all the Orthodoxy activies ceased in Shanghai. The building was then used as restaurant, research institute and other usages. Though not functioning as a church, the building was preserved well and had a few renovations after ages. Recently Shanghai government stopped using it as a restaurant and renovated it again. Although there are no church services here yet, the building itself is a great sight!
