Our Lady of Hope Church is the first church here, is known as St. Lazarus Church. It was built in 1570, was designed to help persons to affected by leprosy. At the same time, a leprosy hospital was built outside of the old city walls (This leprosy hospital in 1882 moved to the Islands, in 1947 moved to Coloane again). The current Our Lady of Lazarus Church was built in 1895, and 1966 repairs. At the entrance of the front of the church, there was standing a cross when a church created.
