Sanming's No.1 mountain, Jinrao Mountain, with a height of 1,858 meters, is located in the nature reserve. There are 36 types of highly protected plants and 17 types of highly protected animals in the reserve.

The Min River Headwaters Tourism Development group has unveiled a plan to build a ski resort on a site some 1,600 meters above sea level in Mount Jinrao, Jianning county, Sanming City, Fujian Province. The facility will cover an area of approximately 3.3 hectares and cost 28 million yuan to build. The project will be completed in three years.
