The design of the city square has underwent a long history, however, nowadays, it should meet not only the general and functional demands of people, but also the requirement of their high-quality cultural life. In view of the problem existing in the design of the city square, the author put forward the principles of the design of the modern city square with Hongshan Square as an example on the basis of analyzing the process of development and the trend of the design of the city square.
