Cemetery of Soviet Martyrs with an area of 48,000 square meters (57,409.4 square yards), the cemetery ranks as the largest for a foreign nation in China. Here lie buried Soviet martyrs who fell during the war of Liberation of Northeast of China and the War against US Aggression in support of Korea, as well as those died in the Lushun garrison in 1945-1955. The cemetery is in the Soviet style of construction.
This former chapel was originally located at the Tsarist Russian cemetery in Port Arthur. Today the Russian cemetery have been rebuilt and expanded as the Soviet Army Martyrs Cemetery located at Sanli Bridge West, Shuishiying town, Lüshunkou District, Liaoning Province. Efforts have begun to restore the cemetery including St Nicholas mosaic icon which was recently restored on September 2, 2010 on a big stone memorial cross for Russian soldiers killed during the Russo-Japanese War.
The former chapel building at the cemetery has been well preserved. The old icon of the Theotokos above the main entrance has survived intact, which is remarkable given so much was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.
